"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope."

                                                               - Martin Luther King Jr.

~

It was hard to understand.

This small girl whose palms could barely fit around the weapon she used, who looked as delicate as a glass doll. Was alone and surviving by herself.

It was even more strange how she choose them to help.

He eyed the way she stalked amongst the alleyways, crouching to peek around a corner before leading them along with a subtle gesture of her hand.

She never spoke, never did words slip past those lips that had yet to be seen by any of them. Was she a symbol of something? The dress she wore almost resembled that of an angel's...

The red-head began to ponder whether or not the mysterious female would disappear once she led them to safety but of course, that was just the imagination igniting within her mind. Man, if only she would sprout wings and fly up to reveal to them that she was indeed a sign. An angel. After the hell they experienced, wouldn't that be a sight to see.

“Isabel..” A gentle nudge from her ebony-haired companion led her spiraling back into the reality. The angelic woman had ceased her walking on top of a hill that overlooked a highway brimming with empty vehicles and wondering dead.

Raising her index finger, she pointed down the ghostly streets of the abandoned highway. The wind kissed her hair and allowed it flow behind her as the sun hit her mask.

“Go straight once on this road. Go to the farmlands. There are less of them there.”

Her vocals drifted into their ears like a river of honey. The taller male relaxing his muscles just by the gentle tone she carried. The wishful mahogany has suspected her voice to sound just like this, a childish grin tugging at her lips.

But as quick as those words floated into the air, she turned on her heel and was leaving their sight with the simple padding of her feet following after her. At first, no one lunged in her direction to stop her, but the 'leader' finally took a step her way.

“What are you doing.” It was more of a command for her to respond. This mysterious woman wasn't going to get away with just saving them and then wondering off on her own.

She didn't respond to the male and only continued to walk away from where she left them on the hill, “Hope! You can't just save us and then leave us!”

Those words seemed to stop her dead in her tracks, white fabric kicking up in the wind as she turned her head just a tad.

“Hope..?” The blonde male gave his female companion a strange look but she didn't mind at all, she was too busy rushing back down the hill. Apparently, that was her new name, a nickname.  This girl had come up with it with her raging imagination.

“You're going back there all alone! D-Did you see those things? They hoard together and in a city it's the worse! Haven't you seen the movies? Going back alone is reckless.” The gurgles of the dead echoed back past the buildings of the once livable city. A place the masked one called home at one point.

“No...it's not.”

The soft voice of hers drifted among the wind once more before she continued on her way, the green hued female was held back from chasing after 'Hope' by the leader of the group, his calloused hand placed firmly on her shoulder. What else could they do? It was her choice to stay or not.

“We...We don't know where to go! Yea, the farmlands but what then?! A-And if there aren't any stores around, what will we get for food?! You can't just abandon us after all this trouble. If you do then, we will become one of those things. Just like my damn wife did. Don't you get it?”

It was the blonde.

He waited for her to turn and shoot a look at him. To maybe comply and follow them into the farmlands...

But she didn't, she didn't even acknowledge him and continued her stride into the city racked with the dead as if it was normal. Did she always just help someone and run off?

Just as the woman veered around a building, the young one with mahogany strands freed herself and took off after her 'Hope'. No way was she getting away easily. Not after the mercy she had blessed them with.

“Isa-”

“Farlan. Quiet.” The one named Farlan had a firm hand covering his mouth, the leader eying him with a warning. “We need to follow her but don't attract them..” His steel hues averted to the wondering ones just down the hill before he released his comrade and tracked after their quite idiotic friend...

Step, Step.

Step...

An extra step?!

She jolted, masked head turning to spy nothing but the eerie streets and dripping pipes in the alley she had just trekked through. Her palms unlatched the weapon on her back and she secured it in her hands just in case...

On edge, the female let her body turn forward and move on towards her destination, ears perked as she listened out for that one...

extra...

STEP!

A quick cock of her gun and she spun back toward the streets....

The red-head.

“Why are you following me.”

“I-I'm Isabel! You must come with us, living here alone is nonsense! My older brother, Levi, and my friend, Farlan, they don't bite! You helped us, so let us help you.” She had her hands raised to the gray skies with fear chiseled on her pale visage.

“...Leave.”

“Bu-!”

“You must get out now! When the sun sets, their senses increase! You have to leave!”

“Why are you helping us if you aren't even going to come along?!” Isabel's pitch grew higher as angered flowed into her vocals, fingers curling into tight fists.

She didn't respond.

Why the fuck didn't she respond!?

“You are a sign of mercy, Of..Of Hope! No one ever stopped to help us before, they only ran off and watched as we struggled even before this shit went down! They never cared if I was a homeless child who lived underground! They didn't care if I wasn't fed! But...But you and big brother...You were the ones who stopped.”

Slowly, her gun shifted toward the ground, shoulders relaxing as this strange yet desperate Isabel told her story and why she was following her like a lost puppy.

“That's why you must come with us!!” Her voice boomed and bounced off of the walls, groaning of the fleshies becoming louder and alerting her savior. Isabel didn't notice her mistake until she saw them stalking near, soulless eyes glowing in the pitch of the night air.

“Son of a bitch!” A curse slipped past her lips as she unsheathed the only weapon she had, a pocket knife.

“You need to go now, Isabel!” For the first time, Isabel found herself shocked to hear her name. Hope called her by her name!!

“No! We can fight together!”

“Leave!”

“I'll help you like you helped me!” She lunged forward and let her blade slip into the wrinkled and ruined flesh of a dead one, blood spewing out onto her wrist as it's brain was punctured and it collapsed to the ground.

Snap!

“My blade!” She squeaked before throwing the useless junk to the ground and moving away. “Fuck, fuck, fuck...! Hope! There's on-!”

“ACK!”

“HOPE!!”

Grimy hands wrapped around the small of her arm, dragging her flesh to it's gaping mouth. It's saliva fell in strips to it's feet while it moaned for the masked one's rich blood and pale skin.

She remembered seeing something metal collide with it's crumbling skull. It's firm grip loosened as it slammed against a concrete wall, the organ within it's cranium exploding against the cracked ruin.

Her rear hit the street and her gun clattered to the ground along with her. The vision she held was blurred...all she could spy was the white shirt of a male...and black..pitch black locks.

It was a damn close call.

And maybe that was why her life flickered before her orbs when she tumbled into the gravel.

“You. Are you bit?” She recognized that voice...That shorter male from earlier. She could almost perfectly picture the handsome lining of his jaw, his small yet intimidating eyes that clashed with his beautifully structured features and those coal strands that hung in his face just a tad.

That ability of analyzing someone without knowing was a flaw yet a perk for her...She knew his voice well...it wasn't a stranger.

Her eyelids opened leisurely, revealing the male she had envisioned moments before. Deep red liquid trickles down the pores of his cheek where blood had been splattered during the kill. His scarred hand moved to wipe the droplet but it only smeared across his smooth jowl.

“B-Big Brother! Farlan!”

“Tch. This is disgusting..” Despite those words, he gripped her hand and yanked her back up, blood meeting her flesh as well.

“Are you bit or not.”

“I'm not...”

“Good.”

An uncanny silence fell overhead with only the sound of Isabel's boot kicking up gravel hitting their eardrums.

“...Please....You need us too..”

Farlan angled his vision elsewhere, eyebrows knitting together. She wasn't going to give up was she? All they needed...was for another person to tag along and then for them to hear their new friend's limbs ripping in the hands of fleshies.

“...This is Levi and Farlan. We want you to come with us. We'll be a group. The more humans there are the easier it would be for us to fight.”

Levi was different than the other two, his eyes focused on the glimmering lens of her mask. “Are you coming or not.” His deep tone sent vibrations through her spine. It was almost unsettling.

Carefully, her slender digits unclasped the back of her mask, other palm seizing the front of it. It fell from her face gradually and exposed a new part of her visage as it did so..

The smooth lining of her nose, almond shaped eyes shining with life, pale yet glowing complexion, subtle, soft, lips the color of rose petals...

A hidden beauty.

“I'm {Name}..”

A name that chimed like a bell as it rolled off the tip of her tongue.

“But since you've taken a liking to it....You can call me Hope.”

Which is what she resembled.

To them.

To humanity.

To the world.

“Alright..Let's get going, Hope.”

It happened to roll off his tongue perfectly too.
YAAAY~ I was able to post this today! I'm really enjoying this series. I dunno if you guys are but i sure am. It's fun to write and fuels my love for zombie apocalypse AUs.  It took me a while to write this despite that tho. I have so much planned that it's hard to fill in the details.

Yes, you read right.

This series maybe a long one if you all so desire! Just tell me what you think...And maybe what might happen? Hehe, I have so much in store so please keep a look out! If you enjoyed this of course.

I wanted to dedicate this to my bby :iconespressocakes: because she became disappointed after certain occurrences and I just want to see her smiling! And since I'm a bit proud of this, i hope she will be too.

You should do a second part after they have kids. I think you should do it where there is a girl with raven black hair and the readers eyes and a boy with the readers hair color and steel blue eyes
